The Research and Consultation Center at Benghazi University organized a scientific seminar entitled “Publishing in Scientific Journals,” in collaboration with the Libyan Association for Quality and Excellence in Education and the Committee for Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Peer-Reviewed Scientific Journals. The seminar was chaired by Dr. Ahmed Al-Zarrouq Al-Ansari.
The seminar included comprehensive discussions on the importance of scientific publishing and how researchers choose reliable scientific journals that adhere to scientific standards. Dr. Adel Al-Sharksi, head of the Statistics Department at the Faculty of Science, Benghazi University, explained that the seminar aims to meet the needs of researchers in understanding the process of publishing in scientific journals, especially in light of the proliferation of journals that do not adhere to scientific standards, which negatively affects the scientific performance of researchers.
Dr. Al-Sharksi also pointed out that Scopus, the organization responsible for classifying scientific journals, recently provided an opportunity for journals published in Arabic. He emphasized the importance of upgrading local scientific journals to comply with international scientific standards.
He added that in response to a proposal from the Libyan Association for Quality and Excellence in Education, a committee entitled “Committee for Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Peer-Reviewed Scientific Journals” was formed under the auspices of the Libyan Research Authority to develop scientific journals. He explained that in its first step, the committee identified the journals eligible for publication based on the criteria set forth in the regulations issued by the Cabinet, which regulate the work of journals in terms of the editorial board, the advisory committee, and their importance, as well as how the journals operate.
This seminar comes within the efforts to promote scientific research and quality in education in Libya, reflecting the commitment of the university and the center to developing the scientific system in the country. The seminar is expected to contribute to raising awareness of the importance of scientific publishing and enhancing the capabilities of researchers in selecting high-quality and credible scientific journals.
The seminar was attended by a large number of researchers, faculty members, and graduate students. It was characterized by constructive discussions, the exchange of experiences and knowledge in the field of scientific publishing. The organization of this seminar reflects the commitment of the university and the center to provide a stimulating and supportive scientific environment for researchers and to enhance fruitful cooperation between the university and other scientific institutions and bodies.
It is expected that the university and the Research and Consultation Center will continue to organize such seminars and events to promote a culture of scientific research and raise the scientific level in the country. These efforts are part of the university’s strategic vision to develop and improve the quality of education and scientific research and enhance the university’s position as a leading academic reference.
